Board of Zoning Appeals Vacancy: Open Until Filled

The Town of Dayton is accepting letters of interest accompanied by a resume for one (1) vacancy on the Dayton Board of Zoning Appeals with a term expiring June 30, 2028. People who live within the Dayton Town limits and have an interest in serving the Dayton Community are encouraged to apply. The Board is made up of five members, each serving five-year terms.  They typically meet on an as-needed basis as determined by the Board Chair and the Zoning Administrator in the Council Chambers of the Dayton Town Hall. 

PURPOSE:  The members of the Dayton Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) shall be responsible for conducting public hearings of 1) appeals of administrative decisions made by the Zoning Administrator, 2) applications for variances which are regulated by the Zoning Ordinance, and 3) the establishing of setbacks for non-conforming buildable lots of record within the Town.  Members of the BZA are recommended by the Dayton Town Council and appointed by the Circuit Court of Rockingham County.

TRAINING:  There is a Certified Board of Zoning Appeals Program that is not currently required by the Town but recommended.  The Town will pay for the training, but it requires 3 workdays of class in addition to home study and reading.
